The Women's Media Center (WMC) makes women visible and powerful in the media. Led by our president, the former Rock the Vote head Jehmu Greene, the WMC works with the media to ensure that women’s stories are told and women's voices are heard. We do this in three ways: through our media advocacy campaigns; by creating our own media; and by training women to participate directly in media. We are engaged with the media at all levels to ensure that a diverse group of women is present in newsrooms, on air, in print and online, as sources and subjects.
As an intern at the Women's Media Center, you will benefit from:
1. First-hand experience in a non-profit media advocacy organization 2. Inclusion in our network and exposure to many women's organizations 3. Involvement with important and interesting events & leaders 4. Opportunities to observe media trainings
The Web Intern assists the Communications Director in maintaining and updating content on the Women's Media Center websites. The intern works closely with new media, design and campaign staff to develop web features and enhance existing functionality. She or he will tweak existing site design and evaluate website for future redesign, manage the integration of third-party site components into our web design, and assist with technical issues as needed. The Web Intern will also prepare, coordinate, and post online graphic and textual communcations materials.
Required:
-Knowledge of some or all of the following: Wordpress, Joomla, Google Analytics, Macromedia Studio, Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CSS and web development standards
-Experience with management of CMS-powered websites (Joomla experience a plus)
-Experience with CRM software (Democracy in Action experience a plus)
-Ability to communicate project scope, timeframe and progress to non-technical staff
-Ability to think critically and independently, to multitask and determine priority projects/assignments • Self-starter who can work independently and has a desire to learn new skills, strong sense of teamwork and collaboration
-Experience building out internet based campaigns in a fast-paced environment, particularly for political organizing or issue advocacy
-Proactive, productive and creative
