Job Title: Education and Employment Fellowship-Paid

Description: The National Women's Law Center is seeking a 2009 or 2010 law school graduate for a fellowship in its Education and Employment program, to begin in September 2010.

Organization
For nearly 40 years, the National Women's Law Center (NWLC) has led the way in expanding possibilities for women and girls in the United States. NWLC uses the law in all its forms to protect and advance the progress of women and girls at work, in school, and in virtually every aspect of their lives. NWLC takes on the issues that cut to the core of women's and girls'lives in education, employment, family economic security, and health, with special priority given to the needs of low-income women and their families.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The fellow will focus on promoting opportunities for women and girls in school and at work. The issues may include improving graduation rates for girls, with a particular focus on low income girls, girls of color, and teen parents; increasing gender equity in athletics, removing barriers for women in nontraditional education and job training; advocating for workplace fairness and equal pay; and fighting sexual harassment in school and at work. Responsibilities may include researching and analyzing policy and legal issues and drafting a variety of materials, such as memos, fact sheets, reports, comments on regulations and legal briefs.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a 2009 or 2010 law school graduate with excellent research, written and oral communications skills who possesses proven initiative and follow-through, the ability to work quickly and well under pressure, and a commitment to gender equity in education.
